One of the biggest problems of the internet and it's capabilities, if not the biggest one, is the dangers that come with surfing it, the internet is not only filled with great, useful, interesting information but it is also filled with scams, viruses, spyware, adware and pretty much just horrible things that are used for nothing but to cause trouble and problems.

Regularly run system scans - A system scan is basically just a scan of every file, folder and anything else on your computer, it will scan to see if it can detect on threats or suspicious files and notify you to take the necessary action against it.
